One day while I was in the Philippines, I was visiting a supermarket to buy daily necessities and ingredients with five people including my Filipino family. Well, it was a great crowd.
We pack what we need into three large carts and we wait in line at the long line of cashiers. My wife said, “I forgot to buy something,” and left the line with my mother in the Philippines.
My sister-in-law, an 8-year-old boy, and I remained waiting at the cash register. However, no matter how long I waited, the two people who left the line did not come back.
Doing so will bring our cashier’s turn closer. Next is our turn.
At this time, if I had enough money to settle, I wouldn’t have been frustrated, but unfortunately I didn’t have that much money. As I was completely numb, I called out to my sister-in-law and left the line to find my wife.
By this time, I had called my wife’s cell phone many times. My wife didn’t answer the phone. When I finally found my wife, I suddenly yelled aloud, “What are you doing ?! Don’t let people cross you! It will bother other people!”
Unconsciously, I came up with a common-sense idea of Japan. Immediately, my wife said to me in English, “Don’t get angry in a loud voice!” She blamed me in English.
What do you mean by my English ability? I could hardly understand it, but from my point of view, I wondered why she happened.
The calm wife said, “If I haven’t returned when the cashier’s turn comes, you can give it to the person waiting in line behind .”
There is a reason for that too! I thought, but I wish I had told it to me first.
Year after year, I tend to be stiff, and have I become less flexible in responding to things on a case-by-case basis? I was a little shocked.
